Method for parking a motor vehicle, whereby the distance between the vehicle and obstacles is determined using a multiplicity on sensors. At least some of the sensors are used to determine the length and width of the gap. During final parking the sensors are used to monitor the distances between the vehicle and obstacles and if less than a minimum separation is left a warning signal is generated. The invention also relates to a corresponding device.
