A motorcycle steering damper (10) comprises two oil chambers (A, B) formed by partitioning the inside of a cylinder (12) by a piston (14) sliding in the cylinder (12) in operative connection with steering action, the piston (14) being formed with an oil hole (15) establishing communication between the two oil chambers (A, B), a bypass passageway (16) for allowing the oil in one oil chamber (A or B) to flow into the other oil chamber (B or A) by bypassing the oil hole (15), an auxiliary chamber (17) somewhere between the ends of the bypass passageway (16), and a check ball (18) disposed in the auxiliary chamber (17) and adapted to be moved to close the bypass passageway (16) when the steering speed exceeds a predetermined value to cause the pressure difference between the two oil chambers (A, B) to assume a predetermined value or above. Therefore, the motorcycle steering damper (10) can be reliably mechanically actuated without requiring electric control, thus suppressing runout of the front wheel system due to disturbance while securing cost reduction and high reliability resulting from reducing the number of parts.
|
