PURPOSE: A spindle for machine tools having a tool cleaning function is provided to perform simultaneously an attachment and detachment of a tool and a cleaning work by a pressured air generating device for regulating a drive of a piston. CONSTITUTION: A spindle for a machine tool comprises a piston(2) regulated by a pressed air generating device(M) into a spindle body(1), a rotating shaft(3) for regulating an attachment/detachment of tools, and a tool mounting hole for mounting the tools(5). The spindle body is formed as an upright cylindrical body having a certain length, and a cylinder(11) partitioned into a plurality of space inside a top side thereof. A rotating shaft installing hole(12) is formed at a lower end of the cylinder, and a connecting hole(13) for connecting to the pressed air generating device(M) is formed at an outside of the partitioned cylinder(11).
