<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of performing density detection on an intermediate body in an optimum state, and also capable of performing optimum transfer even in the case of changing charge amount per unit area of toner on an image carrier from the result of the density detection. <P>SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus, control to increase or decrease the charge amount per unit area of the toner image formed on the image carrier is performed by using a transfer means for transferring the toner image formed on the image carrier to a body to be transferred by the application of high voltage bias being constant voltage, a means for calculating relation between a transfer current and a transfer voltage from a detection value by detecting the transfer current and the transfer voltage at each time while applying the high voltage bias to the transfer means, and a density detection means for detecting the density of the toner image transferred to the body to be transferred. In the apparatus, the transfer bias is set by obtaining relation between the transfer current and the transfer voltage firstly, the control to increase or decrease the charge amount per unit area of the toner image is performed secondly, and the transfer bias is reset from the obtained relation between the current value and the voltage value thirdly. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
