PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fold-in method and device suitable for folding in a sheet material simply from two sides simultaneously into the form of a folding screen. SOLUTION: In place of a conventional sheet material fold-in method in plane form put in the Cartesian X-Y-Z space, a sheet material in plane form is put in the X-Y plane, and the tips of the rear surface fold teeth are abutted from the rear surface along the Z-axis to the outside Y-line of folding while the tips of obverse surface fold teeth are abutted from the obverse surface along the Z-axis to the inside Y-line of folding, and the rear fold teeth and obverse fold teeth are moved along the X-axis so that the X-direction pitch x of the tips of the rear fold teeth and those of the obverse fold teeth becomes shorter, and the rear fold teeth or obverse fold teeth are moved along the Z-axis in the directions of biting into each other so that the Z-direction spacing z of the tips of the rear fold teeth and those of the obverse fold teeth becomes greater, wherein the Z-direction spacing z is allowed to enlarge with smaller X-direction pitch x.
