The method for fitting a base (6) to a tubular container (1) of non-circular section after filling consists of inserting the base with the aid of a male tool (P) and fixing it in position with adhesive film and by folding over and crimping the edge of the container wall. The open end of the container is first fitted between two opposite fixed jaws, the base is positioned between the jaws, and surplus air is expelled from the container by two mobile pressure grippers (S1, S2) before the base is fixed by activating the adhesive film and folding over the edge of the container wall as it is held between the fixed and moving (M3, M4) jaws. |
