<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device which efficiently uses a catalyst by devising a carrying method of a catalyst carried on a PM filter. <P>SOLUTION: In the PM filter 12 installed on a midway of an exhaust pipe 10, at a part A20 where an amount of exhaust gas treated is large, the capability of oxidizing carbon in soot is enhanced by carrying the catalyst having a high promotion force of a carbon oxidation reaction. At a part B22 where an amount of exhaust gas treated is not large, the capability of oxidizing carbon in the soot is lowered by carrying the catalyst having low promotion force of the carbon oxidation reaction. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO</p> |
