PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high performance refractory insulating material suitable for a furnace wall material for baking a baking material by a self-heating caused by radiating microwave thereon.

SOLUTION: In this refractory insulating material for microwave kiln for baking the baking material by the self-heating caused by radiating microwave thereon, a heating layer is formed on one face of a base material, and the base material is formed mainly of an inorganic fiber material and the heating layer is formed mainly of mullite. The heating layer may include, in addition to mullite, a substance having a larger microwave absorbing property than mullite. Also the heating layer includes an inorganic binder. The inorganic binder covers only mullite or the substance having the microwave absorbing property larger than mullite and mullite continuously in film shape.
