PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a COX-2 inhibitor. SOLUTION: The COX-2 inhibitor contains a methanebisphosphonic acid derivative or its hydrate expressed by general formula (I) [X is a 1-8C straight or branched-chain alkyl; Y is a 1-8C straight or branched chain alkyl, trifluoromethyl, a 2-8C straight or branched-chain alkenyl or a 3-8C cycloalkyl; (m) and (n) are each independently 0 or 1; the dotted line is a single bond; A is S-(CH<SB>2</SB>)c ((c) is 0, 1, 2 or 3); B is H or a 1-8C straight or branched-chain alkyl; and R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>and R<SP>4</SP>are each independently H, a 1-8C straight or branched-chain alkyl or a pharmacologically permissible cation) as an active component. The methanebisphosphonic acid derivative expressed by general formula (I) or its hydrate is effective for suppressing COX-2 and useful for the prevention and treatment of colon cancer, bone pain, etc., in which COX-2 is participated.
