PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a swivel drive device for B-axis in a composite machining lathe having a tool headstock having a controller for B-axis. SOLUTION: This swivel drive device 100 of the tool headstock has a cup ring 70 for performing indexing around B-axis and a worm wheel 110, and the worm wheel 110 is turned and driven by a worm gear 120. Both sides of a radial bearing 210 supporting a worm shaft 122 are nipped by rings 222, 242 to supply axial pressure into pressure chambers 224, 242 in order to regulate moving in the axial direction S. When operating the cup ring, axial pressure is discharged to enable moving in the axial direction in order to avoid interference with the cup ring. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
