PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus (10) for decomposing hypopchlorite by which hypochlorite contained in an aqueous solution (1) of hypochlorite can be decomposed with a small quantity of a sulfur containing reducing agent. SOLUTION: The apparatus (10) for decomposing hypochlorite is provided with a thermal decomposition vessel (20), a cooler (30) and a reductive decomposition vessel (40). In the thermal decomposition vessel (20), the aqueous solution (1) of hypochlorite is heated up to≥90°C to thermally decompose hypochlorite and the surface to be in contact with the aqueous solution of hypochlorite is constituted of a titanium based material. In the cooler (30), thermal decomposition liquid (2) after the solution (1) is thermally decomposed is cooled up to≤50°C and the surface to be in contact with the thermal decomposition liquid is constituted of a titanium based material. In the reductive decomposition vessel (40), the thermal decomposition liquid (2) after being cooled is mixed with the sulfur containing reducing agent (4) to reductively decompose un-decomposed hypochlorite. In this apparatus (10), the aqueous solution (1) of hypochlorite is heated up to≥90°C to thermally decomposed hypochlorite and the thermal decomposition liquid (2) is cooled up to≤50°C and mixed with the sulfur containing reducing agent (4) to reductively decompose un-decomposed hypochlorite.
