PURPOSE: A column driving IC for predriving an LCD and a column driving method thereof are provided to reduce the power consumption, the amount of EMI, and a charging mis-match phenomenon by driving columns in two steps. CONSTITUTION: A column driving IC for predriving an LCD includes a plurality of data input terminals(1), a positive analog input terminal(5H), a negative analog input terminal(5L), a selection signal input terminal(6), a polarity signal input terminal(7), a plurality of predriving column circuits(100a,100b), and a plurality of column line output terminals(8). The data input terminals(1) are used for receiving digital data of n-bits. The positive analog input terminal(5H) is used for receiving positive analog voltages of 2¬n number. The negative analog input terminal(5L) is used for receiving negative analog voltages of 2¬n number. The selection signal input terminal(6) is used for receiving a control signal to select a predriving voltage and a data voltage. The polarity signal input terminal(7) is used for receiving a polarity signal to alternate the polarity of the predriving voltage and the polarity of the data voltage. The predriving column circuits(8) are used for outputting alternately phases of voltages according to the polarity signal. The column line output terminals(8) are used for outputting the predriving voltage or the data voltage to column lines.
