<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image forming apparatus which reduces stress on recovered toner, thereby realizing satisfactory toner recycling. <P>SOLUTION: A transfer belt 20 is obliquely disposed so that the height, or level, of one end of a running side 21 along which a plurality of image forming units 4 are disposed is different from that of the other end thereof. Also, in each image forming unit 4, a cleaning device 9 is disposed higher than a developing device 10 and a toner recycle means is provided for supplying toner recovered by the cleaning device 9 to the developing device 10.
