PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a suction and exhaust device situated at the head part of the cylinder of an internal combustion engine which can be reduced in weight and in the number of parts and is of low noise. SOLUTION: Two holes 4a4b, and 5a5b communicating with a combustion chamber 3 are formed in a hard body 2, such as a metal and ceramics. A hole in which a columnar rotary shaft 6 made of a hard body, such as a metal and ceramics, can be inserted and which crosses all of the holes 4a4b and 5a5b is formed. Two holes 8 and 9 are formed in a rotary shaft 6. The situation spots of the holes 4a4b and the hole 8 are set to a position where the holes 4a4b and the hole 8 can be intercommunicated when the rotary shaft 6 is rotated. Communication displacement preventing devices 10 and 11 are situated on the rotary shaft 6 such that intercommunication between the holes 4a4b and the hole 8 and the holes 5a5b and the hole 9 are not displaced. A space where an apparatus 13 for transmitting a power to transmit the power of a crank shaft 14 is mounted is formed at an end part 12 of the rotary shaft 6. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
