PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high pressure electric discharge lamp having a high breakdown voltage. SOLUTION: The high pressure electric discharge lamp 100 comprises a light emission tube 1 which encapsulates a light emission material 6 and sealing sections 2 which maintains the airtightness of the light emission tube 1. Each of the sealing sections 2 comprises a first glass section 8 extended from the light emission tube 1, and a second glass section 7 provided at least in part of the inside part of the first glass section 8.
