PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a charging method of a lead acid storage battery wherein corrosion of a positive electrode grating surface is suppressed in charging, wherein forming of an insulating layer on the boundary surface of the grating and forming of an active material are suppressed and wherein a drop of discharge capacity accompanied with those is small. SOLUTION: This method is characterized that a first stage charging voltage is made to have a balanced voltage of a storage battery +80 mV or more and that the charging voltage has the balanced voltage of the storage battery +70 mV or less, on and after a second stage. As for switching from the first stage charging voltage to the second stage charging voltage, there are a method of carrying it out at the point when a prescribed time has passed from the start of charging after discharge, a method of carrying it out at the point when a prescribed time has passed after a voltage of the storage battery has reached a prescribed voltage, or a method, etc., of carrying it out by detecting an electric current.
