PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information reproducing apparatus and an information reproducing method by which information recorded in each planar optical waveguide can be selectively reproduced without using a mechanical driving means from a hologram recording medium in which a plurality of the planar optical waveguides where information is recorded by hologram, are laminated. SOLUTION: Each of surface light emitting lasers 2211to 2254of an illuminator 12 constituted of surface light emitting laser arrays in which plural surface light emitting lasers 22 are arranged in a matrix shape of n rows m columns on the same substrate 23, is independently on/off-controlled. Illumination rays from the surface light emitting lasers in an on-state are converged and are made incident on the corresponding planar optical waveguides and optional hologram (information) recorded in each planar optical waveguide is selectively reproduced.
