The speed selector (1) for the control of a pinion derailleur or a plate derailleur from a control device (4) comprises, housed inside a casing, a rotating annular cam (5). The cam has two driving tracks (6A,6B) engaging by friction contact or gearing with two winches (9,11) each serving to wind the control cable (10,12) of a derailleur. Each winch has a continuous driving track (14) able to be put in contact with a portion (6C,6D) of the cam track during angular and axial displacement of the cam.
