PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device capable of discriminating 1080i signal from l035i signal, which has a fine difference in the number of effective scanning lines. SOLUTION: A display device discriminates a mode of a video signal in a mode discriminating part based on a synchronizing signal separated from an input video signal, and displays after a conversion process of an interlace progressive and a magnification/reduction process according to a discrimination result. A 1080i/1035i discriminating part is connected to the mode discriminating part. The 1080i/1035i discriminating part is composed of a period generating part which detects a blank signal period in a horizontal scanning line and outputs, a detecting part of Y level included in the video signal during the output period, a Y counter which counts the Y level information, and a comparator which compares a value counted in the Y counter to a setting value.
