Radial expansion apparatus comprises a liner hanger 595 coupled to a support member 525; an annular expansion cone 585 movably coupled to the support member 525 and the liner hanger 595 for radially expanding the liner hanger 595; and a preload assembly for applying an axial force to the cone 585, the assembly including a compressed spring 560 coupled to the support member 525 for applying the axial force, and a spacer 555 coupled to the support member 525 for controlling the amount of spring compression.
