PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To well transfer a continuous paper to a recording start position even in the presence of an auxiliary plate for improving the recording accuracy by pressing the continuous paper against a platen. SOLUTION: In the recorder, the continuous paper SR is transferred from a push tractor unit 12 through the platen 21 to between the platen and a recording head 18 and is pressed by the auxiliary plate 40 against the platen, whereby images are recorded to the continuous paper by the recording head. A control board part 33 for controlling the transfer of the continuous paper and a recording operation of the recording head controls to transfer the continuous paper in a forward direction to a level where a leading end of the paper butts against the auxiliary plate, stop the continuous paper there and then transfer the continuous paper in the opposite direction by a predetermined amount.
