PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a cationic polymer antistatic agent containing a quaternary ammonium salt, having excellent safety to foods and keeping the antistatic performance even under a low-humidity condition. SOLUTION: This antistatic agent is prepared by adding an electrolyte metal salt composed of magnetism chloride or magnesium sulfate to a solution of an antistatic agent composed of an acrylic copolymer having a quaternary ammonium chloride on the side chain or an acrylic copolymer having a quaternary ammonium alkyl sulfate group on the side chain as a cationic polymer having the quaternary ammonium salt.
