<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving method and a drive unit which increases a discharge amount of vapor, stabilizes fuel injection, and improves starting property in a fuel injection pump. <P>SOLUTION: The fuel injection pump 20 of an electromagnetic driving type relieves fuel toward a return passage 5 in an initial region of a pumping process by a plunger 21, and pumps the fuel toward an injection port 33 in a later region of the pumping process. When an engine 2 lies in an idling operation state or the engine is stopped just after a high load operation and then restarted, a pulse energizing where the plunger 21 reciprocates in the initial region and fuel injection is not achieved is performed to a coil 23. Thus, vapor is efficiently discharged, circulated fuel flow rate is increased to improve a cooling operation, vapor occurrence is suppressed, and the starting property and restarting property is improved. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
