OPTICAL TRANSMISSION SYSTEM AND OPTICAL TRANSMISSION METHOD UTILIZING RAMAN AMPLIFICATION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical transmission system for improving transmission characteristics by taking account of the nonlinear optical effect to be caused not only in an optical fiber transmission path wherein the distributed Raman amplification is performed but also in an amplification medium wherein the centralized Raman amplification is performed with an optical transmission device.

SOLUTION: This optical transmission system controls the supplying conditions of pumping lights at a distributed Raman amplifier 10 and a centralized Raman amplifier 30 so that an amount of nonlinear optical effect caused in one repeating section is brought to a required value or less based on signal light powers at a signal input point PA to the optical fiber transmission path 2 in each repeating section and a signal output point PB from the optical fiber transmission path, and signal light powers at a signal light input point PC to a DCF (amplifying medium) 31 and a signal light output point PD from the DCF within an optical repeater 3 in each repeating section.
