PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow firm coupling of a pair of pieces of timber by preventing loosening of a bolt and a nut and damage to a male screw, while ensuring safety and a degree of freedom of design. SOLUTION: After a steel plate 2 is inserted over slits 1a of the paired pieces of the timber 1, a bolt 3 for a joint is inserted into a through-hole 1b of the timber 1 and a insertion hole 2a of the steel plate 2 from the side of one side surface of the timber 1. The bolt for joint is composed of: a shank part 31; a head part 32 which has a diameter-enlarged taper part 321 provided at one end of the shank part 31; and a small-diameter shank part 34 which is provided at the other end of the shank part 31 via a diameter-reduced taper part 33 and in which the male screw is formed. The nut 4 for the joint is inserted into the through-hole 1b from the side of the other side surface of the timber 1, and a female screw of the nut 4 is fastened to the male screw 34a of the bolt 3. In this case, the head part 32 of the bolt 3 and a head part 42 of the nut 4 are embedded, without protruding, in a tapered spot-facing hole 1c which is formed at an end on the side of one side surface of the through-hole 1b and an end on the side of the other side surface thereof.
