PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To read data accurately from the head position of a next fragment irrelevantly to whether a reserved fragment is present as to an information recording medium which does not require a sector for a link between sectors. SOLUTION: Even when data are present in a RUN-IN recording corresponding area (Y at S1, S2), it is not known whether the data are RUN-IN accompanying fragment reservation or data of an original next fragment; and the final ECC block of the fragment right before it is originally an unrecorded area in the former case, so it is confirmed whether data are present at a final ECC block part (S4), but when not (N at S5), it can be decided that the RUN-IN recording corresponding area is a RUN-IN recording area (S6). The head position of the next fragment is right behind the RUN-IN area in this case, so that data can be read accurately from the head position of the next fragment. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
