The umbrella has a rigid cylindrical case which serves in part as a handle for the umbrella and consists of two axial beaker-shaped parts (3,4) which can be separated and joined along a radial plane whereby one (3) is the handle and is fixedly connected to the end of the telescopic rod whilst the other can be removed but so long as the umbrella is located in the case wraps tightly round the umbrella roof (10) which is wound into the cylinder. A further removable flexible sleeve can be provided between the cylindrically wound-up umbrella roof and the case which encloses same.
