PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for detecting the abnormality of recorded signals are provided to promptly detect the abnormality of recorded signals while recording without installing an additional recording head. CONSTITUTION: A plurality of heads(A,B,C) execute recording operations of signals to a recording medium(10) and execute playback operations of the signals recorded in the recording medium. A control unit controls the plurality of heads respectively for executing the recording operations and playback operations at the same time. A discriminating unit discriminates the abnormality of the recorded signals by comparing the signals regenerated from the recording medium with a predetermined reference signal.
