Mucopolysaccharides are produced by treating fish cartilages with an enzyme or an alkali and subjecting the thus obtained aqueous solution to defatting, deodorization, decoloration, filtration and drying. Alternatively, mucopolysaccharides are produced by treating fish cartilages under elevated pressure and subjecting the thus obtained aqueous solution to defatting, deodorization, decoloration, filtration and drying. Thus, mucopolysaccharides such as chondroitin sulfate can be produced within a short time at a low cost. The thus produced mucopolysaccharides are usable as, for example, cosmetic materials or food materials.
|
