Methods of tracking and locating gaming machines 124, possibly using transmitters and receivers 150A, which are then controlled according to their location are disclosed. The machines may be controlled via a host computer 128. In one embodiment, the functioning of the gaming machines is controlled according to a distance parameter and location. All machines within the distance parameter receive a control signal from a reference gaming machine, the control signal changing an aspect of operation of the gaming machines. In another embodiment, gaming machines are controlled so that they are in compliance with gaming location regulations within a casino. Also, the location data may be used to highlight a winning event on a gaming machine to other gaming machines. A computing device receives a signal indicating that a winning event has occurred on a gaming machine and sends a control signal to other machines based upon their location. This could be to machines near to the winning machine. Aspects of the gaming machines that could be controlled are: audio or video output, payout rates, machine denomination, game availability, synchronising events, etc.. Gaming machines could also be linked to a progressive jackpot system based upon their location. |
