The stream of cold gas and/or relatively warm gas generated by a vortex generator may be used in a number of applications. In one embodiment, the conduit (2) of a liquid dispensing nozzle is provided with a gas inlet for delivering a gas to a vortex generator (6) for the generation of a stream of cold gas and a stream of relatively warm gas and has means for directing the cold stream of gas on to at least part of the conduit. The cold gas is directed into a sleeve (8) that surrounds a finned area (10) of the conduit (2). In another embodiment (Fig 3, not shown), a jacket is provided for surrounding a vessel, the jacket comprising a sheath, a gas inlet for delivering gas to a vortex generator for the generation of a cold gas stream and a relatively warm gas stream and means for passing the cold gas stream and/or the warm gas stream through the sheath to affect cooling or heating of the vessel respectively. |
