<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems in using a CCD or a CIS as a sensor for detecting sheets to be carried at a high speed that the needs exist for a smaller space between carrying guides and higher mounting accuracy because of a smaller depth of field. <P>SOLUTION: When the sheets to be guided by the carrying guides 10, 11 are detected by a sheet position detecting sensor 1 such as the CCD or the CIS, the sheet position detecting sensor 1 is covered with a suction duct 5, air is blown from the side of the suction duct 5 through an opening portion 10a of the carrying guide 10 to the sheets being carried and the sheets are thereby pushed against the carrying guide 11. Thus, the positions of the sheet position detecting sensor 1 and the sheets to be detected are kept constant to allow accurate detection, prevent the temperature rise of the sheet position detecting sensor 1 and make dust such as paper debris removable. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
