PURPOSE: A smoke reduction apparatus and a control method thereof are provided to achieve improved fuel combustion efficiency and reduce smoke by permitting the compressed air to be supplied into the intake system and increasing a fuel-air ratio. CONSTITUTION: A smoke reduction apparatus comprises a compressed air supply line(40) for interconnecting an air tank(17) for storing the compressed air generated from a compressor(16) and the front portion of an intake system of an engine; and a compressed air supply valve(42) arranged in the front portion of the intake system of the engine, which controls supply of the compressed air. The compressed air is partially supplied to the intake system of the engine and the fuel-air ratio of the sucked air is increased, to thereby reduce smoke.
