<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semi transmission type liquid crystal display device wherein bright monochromatic display is performed in a reflection mode and color display having high color purity of the level of that of a conventional transmission type liquid crystal display device is performed even in a transmission mode. <P>SOLUTION: A color filter 10, an overcoat layer 7 and a transparent electrode 8 are formed on a glass substrate 12, and a light reflection film 18 is formed so as to cover part of the upper surface of the transparent electrode 8. An electrode group 20 formed by stacking the transparent electrode 8 and the light reflection film 18 comprises a number of strips arranged to be parallel to each other, and an alignment layer is formed on the electrode group 20.
