A roll (2) is rotatably mounted on each profile (8) cooperating the panel guide rails and the roll rotation axis (5) extends parallel to the guide rail and sliding direction. The guide rail has a first set of profiles (6a, 6b) extending in the rail length direction and the rolls have a second set of profiles (4, 4a) extending parallel to and intermeshing with the first profiles. Rotating the rolls causes a parallel displacement of the panel (1) in a direction orthogonal to the structural part (1a) in which it is located, from the closed position to the open position, or vice versa. The device is used to close a panel in an opening in a structural part, e.g. a glass pane or bodywork panel in a vehicle or a wall section in a construction, preferably so that the closed panel is flush with the structural part. The panel is moved from the closed position into the open position in a direction parallel to the structural part. The guide for the panel on the structural part comprises two parallel profiled rails, preferably on the inside of the structural part, and two cooperating profiles on the panel, preferably on the inside of the latter.
