The head rest for a car seat has a swiveling impact-resisting pad (11) which is attached to a frame (7, 9) by a lever system (16). The pad can be moved manually to different positions and is held in position by a spiral spring (21) which cooperates with a sleeve (19) which is integral with the lever system. An Independent claim is included for a car seat fitted with the head rest.
