Red acid dyes for ink-jet printing and for colouring paper

New red acid dyes of formula (I) are claimed. The new acid dyes are of formula (I). R<1> = A-X-COOM, A-X-SO3M, OR<4> or NR<5>R<6>; A = NR<7> or S; X = straight or branched chain 1-16 C alkylene residue which may be substituted by OH, COOH or sulfo, or an arylene residue which may be substituted by OH, COOH or sulfo; R<4>, R<5> and R<6> = H, 1-4 C alkyl, or 1-4 C alkyl which is substituted by one or more hydroxy-, 2-hydroxyethoxy- 1-4 C alkoxy- or amino groups; R<7> = H, Me or E;t M = monovalent cation or one equivalent of a polyvalent cation; n = 0 or 1.
