PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method that can make a groove with a circular-arc shaped concave surface at its bottom efficiently at a low cost on a workpiece. SOLUTION: In using a tool 10 comprising a cutter 20 having a cutting part 22 that has a cutting face 23 and a major flank 24, the tool 10 and the workpiece 50 are relatively moved so that the cutting part 22 contacts with a circular arc grooving path L to correspond with a cutting amount (d) at a specified rake angle (a) after the cutting part 22 is positioned on the workpiece 50 to have the cutting amount (d). As a circular-arc shaped groove 51 is formed by relatively moving the irrotational tool 10 and the workpiece 50 as if the cutting part 22 figures a circular arc grooving path L on the workpiece 50, an accurately grooved face is assured. In addition, as this method can groove faster and more efficiently than a conventional machining method, electric discharge machining, to form a circular-arc shaped groove 21, productivity is improved and machining cost is decreased.
