PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To establish the high elastic modulus and in a large deformation region and high tanδ(the elastic modulus) in a small deformation region. SOLUTION: The rubber for tire tread is a sulfur-vulcanized rubber composition containing 40-200 pts.wt. of fillers to 100 pts.wt. of a polymer containing 40 wt.% or more of a diene polymer. Herein, the fillers contain 30 wt.% or more of carbon black to the whole of the fillers which has a nitrogen adsorption specific surface area of 140-320 m<SP>2</SP>/g and a DBP oil absorption of 90-160 ml/100 g, the total amount of sulfur links is 4.00×10<SP>-5</SP>mole/cm<SP>3</SP>or less, and the ratio of the amount of monosulfide links to the total amount of sulfur links is 50% or more.
