Seating tiers (11, 12, 13) are used in a stadium (10) to position rows of spectators at progressively higher levels, the tiers (11, 12, 13) having a reverse slope such that each row is closer to a playing field (14) than the next lower row, thereby providing spectators with an excellent view of action on the field (14). Walkways (37) extend along the fronts of the seats and windows (38) are adjacent the walkways (37) to allow viewing of the field (14) while protecting spectators. Cross-beams (35) support the rows of seats (36) and provide the walkways (37) and are supported between stairway units (33, 34) that are part of a supporting frame structure.
