<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the amount of calculation and the number of memory accesses when motion predicting/compensating operation is carried out over a B picture. <P>SOLUTION: In a picture information encoding device 10, a screen relocating buffer 12 supplies information 'Picture<SB>-</SB>Type' about the picture type of a frame, and a picture type judger 22 transmits a command to a motion predicting/ compensating unit 21 on the basis of the information. The motion predicting/ compensating unit 21, on the basis of the command, generates a predicted picture using a filter coefficient of a tap number smaller than a P picture, for example, with respect to a B picture requiring a larger quantity of calculation and the number of memory accesses higher than the P picture, and performs motion predicting/compensating operation. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
