Splicing sleeve for telecommunication cable

The cable core is surrounded by a corrugated metal sheath fitted with an outer synthetic jacket. The ends of the metal sheaths are stripped of the jackets and bared. The splice is then sheathed with a plastic-coated metal tube which is supported by electrically insulating thrust or prop rings on the ends of the metal sheaths of the cables which are to be spliced. The ends of the tube and the metal sheaths are coated with a two-component plastic resin so that the spaces between metal sheaths, tube and prop rings are completely filled. A melt adhesive is applied before the plastic resin is applied, on to the bare zones of the metal sheaths and the tube as well as on to the plastic-coated metal tube where it is to be coated with the plastic resin. The melt adhesive may be in the form of a film comprising an ionomer, EVA copolymer of polyethylene terpolymer with acrylic acid (ester) as adhesion aid.
