A number of feeders (2) are belt driven from a motor (15) to draw yarns (17) from packages (16) and supply them to the machine (10). Each feeder (2) has a clutch consisting of facing toothed plates, one of which is tilted by a spring to bring some teeth into engagement to provide the drive to the yarn storage drum. The weight of yarn on the drum tends to return the plates to a parallel position and so interrupt the drive. Each feeder (2) is supported from the framework (11) on an arm that carries the drive pulley and feeder components on a vertical shaft. One clutch plate can tilt slightly about a transverse pin against a spring-loaded screw, which is adjusted so that the drive disengages when sufficient yarn is present on the storage drum.
