A temperature compensation type oscillator comprising an oscillating circuit (20), a temperature determining circuit (18), and a temperature compensating circuit (30) for keeping, based on a temperature determination signal from the temperature determining circuit (18), the frequency of an output signal from the oscillating circuit (20) at an approximately constant value, wherein a selecting circuit (40) is provided that selects whether to enable or disable the temperature compensating function of the temperature compensating circuit (30). In this way, under the condition that a quartz member, IC chips and so on are disposed in the package, the temperature compensating function of the temperature compensating circuit (30) is disabled, and the oscillating circuit (20) is activated to precisely adjust the temperature characteristic of the quartz member itself, and thereafter, operations of preparing and storing compensation data into a memory can be subsequently performed.
