PURPOSE: An organic clay compound, its preparation method, a polymer-clay nanocomposite composition containing the compound and a preparation method of polymer-clay nanocomposite are provided, wherein the nanocomposite shows remarkably improved mechanical properties and thermal stability. CONSTITUTION: The organic clay compound comprises a layered clay; an organic salt containing an epoxy reactive group; and an epoxy monomer or a low molecular weight epoxy polymer. Preferably the layered clay is at least one selected from the group consisting of montmorillonite, bentonite, hectorite, fluorohectorite, saponite, beidelite, nontronite, stevensite, vermiculite, volkonskoite, magadiite, kenyaite and their derivatives; and the organic salt is a salt containing the phosphonium ion is represented by R1R2R3R4P+, wherein R1, R2, R3 and R4 are independently an organic group containing a carbon chain, at least one among the four groups is a carboxylic acid, an alcohol, an amine, an amine, a phosphine, a phenol, a thiol or a silanol capable of reacting with an epoxy group. The polymer-clay nanocomposite composition comprises 0.1-60 wt% of the organic clay compound; and a polymer medium.
