<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a front light whereby luminance of a light guide plate is enhanced. <P>SOLUTION: A recessed lens part 21 disposed face to face with a light emitting diode diffused point light from the light emitting diode. A light guide pipe 18 converts light diffused by the recessed lens part 21 to a linear light source. A light guide plate converts the light converted to the linear light source by the light guide pipe 18 to a flat light source. Because of diffusion of light by the recessed lens part 21, light from the light emitting diode can be efficiently converted to the linear light source by the light guide pipe 18.
