<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To flatten the gain-wavelength characteristic of an optical amplifier using a rare-earth-doped optical fiber without lowering the gain efficiency of the amplifier and, in addition, to widen the amplification bands of the amplifier. <P>SOLUTION: The plurality of low-gain bands of this EDFA 2 is used as the amplification bands of this EDFA 2 by installing distributed Raman amplifiers 3-5 which respectively amplify signal light rays with pumping light rays respectively having corresponding wavelengths to the low-gain bands. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO</p> |
