<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode material of an electric double-layer capacitor with a high capacity and superior cyclic characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: An electrode material fiber-like active carbon of an electric double-layer capacitor is a fiber-like active carbon including a metal or a metal compound, and the metal or the metal compound does not exist on the surface of the fiber-like active carbon. In a method for manufacturing the fiber-like active carbon, a metal-containing pitch is infused, carbonized, activated, and next cleaned with an acid or an alkali.
