PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To back up the equipment setting data of a portable telephone and to make the backed-up data downloadable to a different type of portable telephone. SOLUTION: A backup server 400 which backs up the data of the portable telephone 100 compares the type of the backed-up telephone 100 with that of a portable telephone 110 requesting the downloading of the backed-up data upon receiving a downloading request from the telephone 110. When the type of the telephone 110 requesting the downloading is different from that of the telephone 100, the server 400 converts the backed-up data into those suitable for the type of the telephone 110 and transmits the converted data to the telephone 110.
