Polycaprolactone− and chitosan− coated epichlorohydrincrosslinked alginate (PACE−A) microspheres were prepared by a reproducible polymer dispersion technique that produced recombinant protein−containing particles averaging 8.2µm in size. The PACE−A microspheres of the invention were coated with chitosan and polycaprolactone to increase the mechanical strength and stabilization and to modify the time of antigen release.
